Special Characters

In most text editors, it is easy to add symbols from the menu. Conspicuously absent are male and female symbols.

The problem:

How do I find and insert male and female symbols?

The solution:

You can use their unicode values. In Word type 2640 (female) or 2642 (male) and then press ALT+X. For other possible gender codes, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_symbol.

tl;dr

If you need gender symbols, type "2640 ATL-X" or "2642 ALT-X".
